On November 13, 1979 Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy for president. On July 16, 1983 he won the Presidential Nomination at the Republican National Convention, Detroit, MI. He debated President Carter on October 28, 1980. On November 4, 1980 Ronald Reagan won the presidential election in a landslide victory (489-49 Electoral College Votes).
