Lieutenant Ronald Reagan and the U.S. Cavalry
Saturday, June 18, 2005 - Tuesday, July 4, 2006
"The United States cavalry played an important and fascinating role in the history of the nation. In fact, five presidents served as horse soldiers prior to coming to the White House including Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan. As a young man Reagan enlisted in the U.S. Army reserves where he learned to ride. His years of service as a cavalry officer led to a lifelong love of horses. And his excellent cavalry training helped him many times when he was cast as a horse soldier in movies and television.
This new exhibit will be opening in the Mary Jane Wick Gallery on June 18, 2005 featuring the U.S. cavalry in history and in Hollywood from the1800s until the 1940s, when horse power replaced horses."
