Physical DescriptionA white garrison cap trimmed in yellow, with a purple heart patch, lettered "MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEARTS" on one side and "NAT'L. COMMANDER IN-CHIEF" on the other.Historical NotePresident Reagan was made a life member in the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the cap was presented in the Roosevelt Room of the White House February 23, 1984 after he signed Executive Order 12464, amending the Award of the Purple Heart to include elegibilty for those wounded during terrorist attacks and peacekeeping missions.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
