Physical DescriptionThis is a sculpture of two brass giraffes, one large and the other small. The larger giraffe is craning its neck down toward the smaller giraffe, which is looking up toward it. The giraffes are mounted on a wooden base with a brass plaque stating "NANCY REAGAN 'FOR STICKING YOUR NECK OUT FOR KIDS', NATIONAL FEDERATION OF PARENTS FOR DRUG-FREE YOUTH, SEPTEMBER 28, 1984."Historical NoteNancy Reagan attended the third annual National Federation of Parents NFP luncheon on September 28, 1984, along with Adrienne Barbeau and Brooke Shields. There she was given this bronze sculpture for "sticking her neck out for kids."

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
