Physical DescriptionA Dominican amber jewelry set. A twisted four-strand necklace with Dominican amber beads, a 14-kt gold clasp, and a large amber stone. Matching amber stone earrings with 14kt gold backings. The set is housed in a multi-colored chevron pattern marquetry mahogany wood box. The chevron at the top of the lid is another piece of amber, reputed to be 50 million years old and containing a fossilized insect. The clasp is a silver bar lettered "NDR."
Historical NoteThe gift to First Lady Nancy Reagan was given during a state visit of President and Mrs. Blanco of the Dominican Republic April 10, 1984.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
