Physical DescriptionA miniature cast metal replica of the bronze bull and bear statue created by Isadore Bonheur. The sculpture depicts a bull and a bear fighting with the bear on the ground, its mouth around the ear of the bull. On the front base of the sculpture is a small metal plaque engraved "PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN ,NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE, MARCH 28, 1985." On the bottom of the base is a copper toned metal plaque with engraved text stating “This statue is a replica of the widely known bronze statue of the ‘Bull and Bear’ which was created by Isadore Bonheur and exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in St. Louis is 1900. The original statue was purchased by the Stock Exchange Luncheon Club from one of its members on September 17, 1924. It has become the symbol of the New York Stock Exchange and the market. It was set upon its marble base and placed in the main entrance hall of the Club Rooms at 11 Wall Street. It has remained in this location up to the present day. THE NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE.” The base sculpture is surrounded by green felt.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
