Physical DescriptionA Toby Jug in the shape of President Ronald Reagan, head and shoulders, wearing a black suit, white shirt, and red tie. The bottom is white and is stamped with a logo lettered “Woodside Pottery MADE IN ENGLAND” in black. Historical NoteA Toby Jug is a type of mug in the shape of a well-known person or character, either head and shoulders or in the shape of a seated figure. Toby Jugs were first made by Staffordshire potters in the 1760s.
This jug was sent through the State Department after First Lady Nancy Reagan attended the wedding of HRH The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer in London, July 29, 1981.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
