Physical DescriptionThis is a silver POW-MIA commemorative coin. The obverse has a relief of a silhouette of a man’s head with barbed wire and a guard tower in the background. The engraved text states, “POW*MIA DECENNIUM YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!” The reverse has a relief of a scroll lettered “.999 FINE SILVER” and olive branches. The reverse of the coin text states, “ONE TROY OUNCE TEXAS MINT SILVER TRADE UNIT” in raised letters.
Historical NoteThe coin was given during an event where President Ronald Reagan spoke to POW/MIA families at the meeting of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City on January 28, 1983. The gifter, Carolyn Standerwick-Long was the widow of Col Robert Standerwick of Mankato, KS. He was a pilot in the United States Air Force. He was declared MIA after his plane was shot down over Laos on February 3, 1971, and his body was never recovered. In addition to his parents, Col Standerwick was survived by his wife Carolyn and 4 children (Lynn, Sherrill, Ann, and Robert Jr), living in Bellevue, Nebraska. He is honored on Panel 5W, Line 76 of the Wall.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
