Historical NotePresident Reagan visited Brazil December 1-2, 1982, where he attended a dinner hosted by Brazilian President João Baptista de Oliveira Figueiredo at the Palácio Itamaraty in Brasilia on the 1st, and met with American and Brazilian Businessmen at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes in São Paulo on the 2nd. He stayed overnight at the Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the President of Brazil. This goblet was given on that trip. The goblet is for Yerba mate, an herbal tea made from the leaves of the Ilex plant, which is native to South America. The traditional way to make it involves steeping the leaves in water, usually in a gourd.
