Physical DescriptionA necklace made of pearls and semiprecious stone beads, alternating large and small beads, interspersed with gold seed beads. The beads are made of coral, turquoise, jade, onyx, or garnet.
Historical NoteThe nacklace was given at a Japanese tea that Congresswoman Akiko Santō, a member of the Japanese House of Councillors, presided over, which included Nancy Reagan and Tsutako Nakasone, the wife of Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
