Physical DescriptionA sculpture depicting Rama and Sita mounted onto a wood base with engraved text stating, "Happy Birthday Mr. President Ronald Reagan P.F. 6th Feb 1984. Sincerely yours, Adiono Pribadi Indonesia RAMA SINTA." The sculpture is two dolls in traditional clothing, and the male figure is holding a bow and wearing a quiver with arrows.
Historical NoteDolls depicting Prince Rama, holding a bow and arrow, and Princess Sita. The Kakawin Ramayana is an Indonesian version of the ancient Indian epic poem. Written in old Javanese around 850 AD, it tells the story of Prince Rama, the eldest son of King Dasharatha, who wins an archery contest to marry the Princess Sita, the daughter of King Janak, but he was then exiled for 14 years and she is kidnapped by the evil king Ravana. The dolls are on a wooden base is inscribed with a birthday message for President Reagan's 73rd birthday in 1984.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
