Physical DescriptionA round mosaic of the personification of fall crowned with wheat, in a wooden frame.Historical NoteMosaic walls and floors were found in Roman homes throughout the Empire, including many in North Africa and Tunisia specifically. One of the largest collections of Roman mosaics is in the Bardo National Museum in Tunis. This mosaic is a reproduction of one of the four seasons insets in the mural depicting the crowning of Apollo after defeating Marsyas in a music competition. The mosaic was originaly found in Thysdrus (El Jem), Tunisia and is now in the Bardo Museum.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
