Physical DescriptionA silver oval shaped belt buckle with an etched western design around the edges and a red and blue enameled Republican party elephant. The back of the buckle is engraved “Handcrafted In USA.”
Historical NoteThe buckle was given as part of the celebrations for National Hispanic Heritage Week. Proclamation 5366 stated "Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, Pres- ident of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim the week beginning September 15, 1985, as National Hispanic Heritage Week, in recognition of the Hispanic individuals, families, and communities that enrich our national life. I call upon the people of the United States, especially the educational community, to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities."

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
