Physical DescriptionA wooden plaque with a metal plate inscribed "Presented to The Honorable Ronald W. Reagan President of The United States in recognition of your support and contributions to National and International Law Enforcement, International Association of Chiefs of Police September 28, 1981, William F. Quinn President, Norman Darwick Executive Director." On the back of the plaque is a gold-colored sticker with black text reading "GLADIATOR SPORTS AND AWARDS, 15904 Luanne Drive, Gaithersburg, Md. (301) 840-9260." There is also a red cloth bag to carry the plaque.
Historical NotePresident Reagan spoke on September 28, 1981 at the Annual Meeting of the International Association of Chiefs of Police at the Rivergate Convention Center in New Orleans, LA. The plaque was presented to him by William F. Quinn, the outgoing president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Chief of Police of the Newton Police Department, West Newton, ME. After President Reagan ended his speech and Captain Quinn came up to the podium, the applause continued so long Reagan said to Quinn, “You’d better start talking.” Quinn responded, “Mr. President, I think the chiefs and the law enforcement community of the United States and over forty foreign nations in this audience told you today how much we love you.”

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
