Physical DescriptionA footed-pedestal style mantel clock (.01a). The clock is decorated with a black varnished background and gold leaf gilding on the finials and edges. Painted throughout the clock are different yellow floral patterns. The mantel clock was created by Le Castle in Switzerland. On the bottom of the clock there is a gold plaque with black text stating The plaque reads "A son Excellence, Monsieur Ronald Reagan, Président des Etats - Unis d'Amérique, en commémoration de sa rencontre À Gestra avec Monsieur Mikhail Gorbatchev, Secrétaire général du Comité Central du Parti Communists de l'Union des Républiques Socialistes Soviétiques Au nom du Conseil fédéral Suisse, Kurt Furgler, Président de la Confédération 18 novembre 1985." The parts of the clock are numbered as follows: Top (.01b), base (.01c ), and pendulum (.01d).Historical NoteIt was made by Le Castel of Switzerland, and given during a trip to Geneva for the Geneva Summit November 19, 1985.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
