Physical DescriptionA Steuben crystal Revere bowl (.01a) commemorated the second public inauguration of President Ronald Reagan. It is engraved "RONALD W. REAGAN, JANUARY 21, 1985." The bowl sits on a metal base with a velvet top (.01b). It is inscribed around the edge, "A MORE PERFECT UNION . . . BLESSINGS OF LIBERTY."

Historical NoteAfter it was given by the House of Representatives and Senate Leadership in 1985, the bowl was on display in the White House West Wing Picture Room.
Revere bowls take their name from a silver bowl of the same shape made by Paul Revere in 1768 and engraved with the names of the Sons of Liberty. The Liberty Bowl, commissioned by fifteen members of the Sons of Liberty, honored ninety-two members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives who refused to rescind a letter sent throughout the colonies protesting the Townshend Acts. The original in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and was on display in the White House until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
