Physical DescriptionA set of 15 commemorative medals depicting the name of a Soviet Territory and the flag with the symbol of the U.S.S.R. on different colored enamels. The first coin is circular with a bronze color and embossed text stating, "Российская Советская Федеративная Республика." The Russian text translates to "Russian Soviet Federative Republic." Above the text is a flag with a vertical blue enamel stripe to the left side and red enamel with the hammer and sickle on the right (.01). The second coin is circular with a bronze color and embossed text stating "Украинская Советская Социалистическая Республика" The Russian text translates to "Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic" Above the text is a flag with a horizontal blue enamel stripe at the bottom and red enamel with the hammer and sickle on the top (.02). The third coin is circular with a bronze color and embossed text stating "Белорусская Советская Социалистическая Республика" The Russian text translates to "Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic." Above the text is a flag with a vertical light red stripe to the left with gold geometric details, a horizontal green enamel stripe at the bottom, and red enamel with the hammer and sickle on the top (.03). The fourth coin is circular with a bronze color and embossed text stating "Узбекская Советская Социалистическая Республика" The Russian text translates to "Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic." Above the text is a flag with red enamel with the hammer and sickle bisected by a blue and white enamel stripe (.04). The thirteenth coin is circular with a bronze color and embossed text stating "Армянская Советская Социалистическая Республика" The Russian text translates to "Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic." Above the text is a flag with red enamel with a hammer and sickle divided in half with a dark blue stripe (.13). The fifteenth coin is circular with a bronze color and embossed text stating "Туркменская Советская Социалистическая Республика" The Russian text translates to "Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic." Above the text is a flag with red enamel, a hammer, and a sickle. Near the bottom of the flag are two wavy white lines and two black wavy lines (.15). The final coin is a bronze colored rounded square shape with embossed text stating, "Эстонская Советская Социалистическая Республика." The Russian text translates to "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" below a U.S.S.R. flag with a red enamel background (.16).
Historical NotePresident Ronald Reagan met with Soviet Politburo member Vladmir Shcherbytsky in the Oval Office on March 7, 1985. The medal set was given after the meeting.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
