Physical DescriptionA 18k white gold ring with a yellow gold relief design of the Porta Soprana medieval gate and the house of Christopher Columbus, set with rubies and diamonds. The ring is engraved inside "Nancy Reagan, Genoa."Historical NoteThe sculpture was given by Rinaldo Magnani, the President of the Liguria Regional Government in Italy, when he was in Washington, DC to attend the 1985 Columbus Film Festival, which was held at the Kennedy Center. He gave President Ronald Reagan the ring with the design of Christopher Columbus’s home in Genoa for First Lady Nancy Reagan. Columbus, though sailing on his expedition with the support of the Spanish crown, was from the city of Genoa, in the then-Republic of Genoa. Today Genoa is the capital of Liguria.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
