Physical DescriptionA silk campaign ribbon from 1884. On the ribbon are two images of the candidate for President and Vice president along with the text "JAMES G. BLAINE FOR PRESIDENT" and"JOHN A. LOGAN FOR VICE PRESIDENTIAL."Historical NoteJames G. Blaine (1830-1893) was the both a Representative and Senator from Maine in the late 19th century, Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1869-1875 and United States Secretary of State 1889-1892. He was the Republican candidate for President in 1884. His running mate was John A. Logan (1826-1886), who was a Senator from Illinois. Grover Cleveland of New York won the election.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
