Physical DescriptionA red spiral-bound cookbook titled "Teacher In Space Cookbook" compiled by the Teacher In Space National Finalists, The "Class of 51L", United States Space Shuttle Challenger Mission scheduled for launch, January 22, 1986, and other parties interested in Space Education. The cover features a black image of a space shuttle flying over a torch. The inside cover is inscribed by Bonnie DeHoff Fakes.
Historical NoteGifter Bonnie D. Fakes of Tennessee was one of the National Finalists for the Teacher in Space Project, but Christa McAuliffe was ultimately chosen. Fakes was also the editor of the Teacher in Space Cookbook, which included recipes from other Teacher in Space finalists and NASA personnel. Fakes sent a copy of the cookbook to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan as a thank you for contributing recipes, including the President's Favorite macaroni and chese. Dick Scobee, the Mission Commander on STS-51L, contributed a recipe for Peanut Butter M&M cookies.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
