Physical DescriptionA desk clock in a small wooden box. The clock is a "NAVIQUARTZ III,' MODEL NO. 1215 HF; Naviquartz Chronometer" Patek Philippe, Genève, mahogany quartz chronometer with center-seconds, stop feature, and battery power-reserve indicator. Three-tier, hinged corners, and sides are reinforced by brass inlays in the tradition of deck watches, with the bottom being a folding brass stand. White with bold radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, below on the dial plate two apertures, right for push-button activating power-reserve indication, left for the indicator. Black "Breguet" hands. With quartz standardization, an electronic hack mechanism for stopping for precision setting. On the inside of the lid is a small metal engraved plaque.
Historical NoteThe clock was given on the occasion of a visit by Kurt Furgler of Switzerland in the Oval Office on February 3, 1984. Patek Philippe Naviquartz clocks were originally designed to be used on ships, and this model was made approximately 1972-1989.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
