Physical DescriptionAn earthenware pedestal style dish. The dish is designed with a ring stand and pierced open work triangular pattern.Historical NoteArchaeologists excavated this ring footed earthenware pedestal dish from a site in Batangas, Southern Luzon, in the Philippines. It dates to the Philippine Middle Metal Age, between 100 BC and 300 AD. The Metal Age was characterized by the introduction of iron tools as well increases in pottery technology. This piece seems to be some kind of presentation dish, commonly found in burial sites, and features triangular cut-outs. The dish is a gift to the people of the United States from the people of the Philippines, and was presented during a working visit of Corazon Aquino, President of the Philippines (1986-1992) in the Oval Office in September of 1986.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
