Physical DescriptionA sculpture of three gray elephants on a white base. The largest elephant, presumably the male, has its trunk above its head, and its mouth is open as if crying out. The two smaller elephants, a female and a baby, walk behind the larger one and hold trunks. Beneath the larger elephant is an engraving "To President & Mrs. Reagan from Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States" on a silver backing. The sculpture is titled "Elephants Walking" by Sculptor Fulgencio García.
Historical NoteLladro sculpture "Elephants Walking" by Fulgencio García, depicting a family of elephants. It was presented to President Reagan by Arthur Fellwock, the National Commander-in-Chief of the VFW, at a briefing for veterans and military leaders of major organizations in the Cabinet Room on July 17, 1981.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
