Historical NoteThis sculpture was a part of the Cybis Portraits of Historical Personages Collection, and was produced in 1976 for the United States Bicentennial. Priscilla Alden, born Priscilla Mullins in England around 1602, travelled on the Mayflower in 1620 with her family when she was just eighteen. Her father, step-mother, and brother all died the first year they were in Plymouth. Priscilla married fellow Pilgrim John Alden in 1621. She was the subject of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1858 poem "The Courtship of Miles Standish." Longfellow was himself a descendant of John and Priscilla Alden.
