Physical DescriptionA round metal trinket box with a 14 petal chrysanthemum emblem surrounded by four flowers in a circle engraved on the lid. The bottom of the box is stamped with two kanji symbols.
Historical NoteThis small silver trinket box bears the standard of the Prince Hitachi, a 14 petal chrysanthemum emblem surrounded by four flowers in a circle, which is based on the Imperial symbol. It was given on the occasion of Prince and Princess Hitachi's visit to the United States in September of 1981 and given through Japanese Ambassador Yoshio Okawara.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
