Physical DescriptionA silver metal medallion commemorating Pope Paul II. The obverse has a portrait of the Pope and "JOANNES PAVLVS II PONT. MAX." The reverse depicts a version of the Virgin Mary known as the Black Madonna of Częstochowa. It is lettered "O. L. CZESTOCHOWA ORA PRO NOBIS ITALY."Historical NoteThis medal has a portrait of the Pope on one side and The Black Madonna of Częstochowa on the other.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
