Physical DescriptionA brass belt buckle in the shape of the state of South Dakota with a river running through it. The buckle has "1881 1981 JUNE 5-6-7 1981 MISSOURI RIVER PLANKINTON S.D." in raised letters, with a raised star marking the location of the city of Pinkinton. The ring and hook fastener on the back is stamped "HIT HIT LINE U.S.A."
Historical NoteThe buckle buckle is to celebrate the centennial of the city of Plankinton, SD, which was founded in 1881 after the railroad arrived in the area. It was named for Milwaukee-based meatpacker and railroad official John Plankinton. Plankinton is the county seat of Aurora County, SD.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
