Physical DescriptionA gong mounted with elephant tusks on a wooden base. The gong is suspended between the two elephant tusks with a metal chain. A small engraved metal plaque on the wood base states, "To H.E. Mr Ronald W. Reagan President of the United States of America from General (Prem Tinsulanondal) Prime Minister of Thailand October 1981." Mounted below the gong is a removable gong stick on two metal stands.
Historical NotePresident Reagan met with Prem Tinsulanonda in the Oval Office on October 6, 1981, and held a luncheon in the State Dining Room in his honor. After their meetings, the Prime Minister sent him this gong featuring elephant tusks.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
