Physical DescriptionThis is a "Man Of The Year Award" made up of a gold-toned metal statue of a workman mounted on a wooden base. On the base is a metal engraved presentation plaque with text that states, "THE ASSOCIATED GENERAL CONTRACTORS OF AMERICA, MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR, SKILL, INTEGRITY & RESPONSIBILITY PRESENTED ON MARCH 16, 1981 TO PRESIDENT RONALD W. REAGAN."
Historical NoteThe award was presented by Ival R. Gianchette, President of the Associated General Contractors of America, at the 62nd AGCA Convention held at the at the Washington Hilton Hotel on March 16, 1981. Upon receiving the gold statuette, President Reagan quipped, "Well, thank you very much. Now I have an Oscar." He then thanked the members, saying "An award from you is much more than a recognition from the business community; it's a tribute from the people who literally built America."

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
