Physical DescriptionThis is a bronze sculpture of an elephant in motion. On the hollow bronze base is an attached metal plaque engraved "The Leader." Inside the base is another metal engraved plaque stating, "This bronze elephant was cast on January 20th, 1981, the very day Ronald Reagan was inaugurated as President of the United States of America. It is presented to him as a symbolic remembrance of that momentous occasion ___the American Republic Party. Presented by the sculptor on behalf of "grnte" (?) citizens of our great nation." Ronald Moreschini made it as a limited edition number of 1 of 25.
Historical NoteOne of dentist Ronald Moreschini's hobbies was sculpting. He cast this elephant sculpture he named "The Leader" on January 20, 1981, the day of President Ronald Reagan's inauguration. He gave the president the sculpture as a "momento [sic] of the occasion and as a symbol of the Republican party."

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
