Physical DescriptionA white and yellow stone paperweight with a gold foil sticker on top of it. The sticker depicts the seal of the City of Grand Forks, with a tree in an open field, the trunk of which is surrounded by bundles of wheat; on the right, a plow, anvil, and sledge; the lower center is a bow crossed with three arrows, at the left is an Indian on horseback pursuing a buffalo; a half circle of forty-two stars arches the top. The bottom of the coin has the motto "Liberty and Union Now And Forever One And Inseparable" arched along the edge. The back of the paperweight has four black felt feet.Historical NoteThe paperweight was given during a briefing for State Legislators and local government officials from thirteen different northeastern and midwestern states. It was held in the White House State Dining room on July 23, 1981.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
