Physical DescriptionA clear glass jar decorated to look like a pig wearing a straw hat. The pig's ears are made of small pennant flags with text stating "Yea Team." It is Mounted on two wood stands. The back of the jar has a brown and white sticker that states, "Purveyors of fine chocolates, Long Grove Confectionery Co., Long Grove, Chicago, Wilmette."Historical NotePresident and Mrs. Reagan met with tennis greats at a reception for the Davis Cup and Wightman Cup Tennis Teams on the White House Tennis Courts September 14, 1981. The women’s team swept the British in the Wightman Cup that year. Andrea Jaeger, then the No. 2 ranked professional tennis player in the world was introduced by Arthur Ashe, saying “And she threw away her bubble gum today, Andrea Jaeger, 15 years old -- sorry, 16.” Jaeger presented President Reagan a container shaped like a pig filled with jellybeans. President Reagan earlier had quipped, “I was going to take up tennis again until I found out you couldn't get the horse on the court.” As she presented her gift, she said, “And if he doesn't want to start tennis again, he can just stick with his jellybeans.” President Reagan replied, “Well, that beats one of those boats in a bottle.”

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
