Historical NoteThe pair of white bisque porcelain unicorns are named Gamble and Frolic. The gifter wrote of the pieces, "According to the ancient Chinese proverb, the creation of the world was accomplished with the aid of four animals: the dragon, the tortoise, the phoenix, and the unicorn... As the legend related, the unicorn appears to mankind only when the Nation has a leader who is just and link and the times are peaceful and prosperous... The unicorn colts, created in porcelain by the artists of Cybis, symbolize that ancient legend and a Nation's aspirations and belief in the possibility for such a future with you, our new President, and your charming wife, Nancy."
