Physical DescriptionA wooden plaque with a paper certificate mounted under glass. The certificate states, “Headwear Institute Of America Presents this AWARD to President Ronald Reagan as headwear man of the year January 15, 1981.” On the back of the plaque is a sticker stating, “MALCOLM & HAYES ENGRAVERS – ENGROSSERS – SCULPTORS PLAQUES – SCROLLS – TROPHIES – FRAMES #54 3rd AVE N.Y.C. MU2-1318.”


Historical NoteRep. Clint Roberts (R-SD) presented President Reagan with a cowboy hat and the Headwear Man of the Year award, on behalf of the people of South Dakota, in the Oval Office on February 23, 1981.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
