Physical DescriptionA bronze circular emblem depicting the hands of friendship over a sword and star. There is a Jewish star on one side of the star and a cross on the other side. At the bottom of the star is "BVA." Beneath the circular medallion is a plaque engraved with "President Ronald Reagan, we have faith in your 'New Beginning' Blinded Veterans Association 1981. The plaque is taped to the wooden backing. The back of the plaque is signed in black ink: "Julia B. Thelms sculptor 1981."
Historical NoteIt was presented to President Reagan by Dr. Stocking at a briefing for veterans and military leaders of major organizations in the Cabinet Room on July 17, 1981. The plaque was designed for National Blinded Veterans Recognition Day Convention, held August 11-15, 1981.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
