Physical DescriptionA red, white, and blue Washington, DC, 1981 Inaugural license plate on a brown wood plaque. The top of the license plate is red and lettered "WASHINGTON, D.C.' in white. The middle is white with an image of a waving American flag on the left and lettered "B2TUF" in blue. No license tags. The bottom stripe is blue and lettered "U.S.A. PRESIDENTIAL INUAGURATION 1981" in white. Four oval holes. The plaque is lettered in white "' SPEAK SOFTLY AND CARRY A MIG STICK' (1981 VERSION IN 5 LETTERS) PERSONALIZED INAUGURAL LICENSE PLATE PURCHASED BY S. J. TEMPLETON, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. DISPLAYED THE FIRST 100 DAYS OF THE REAGAN ADMINISTRATION." The back is plain, with a sawtooth hanger in the upper center.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
