Physical DescriptionA framed copper sheet depicting the outline of Chief Crazy Horse in bullet holes. The copper plate is framed in black with a gold inner ridge and a blue mat. The frame is backed in cardboard. A white card typed “(CHIEF CRAZY HORSE) / DATE SHOT: June 5, 1981 / SHOOTER Samuel M. Yarosh / TYPE OF WEAPON: Nylon Model 66 Remington / DISTANCE: 21 Feet” is glued on the back upper center. On the back lower center is a white sticker lettered “CUSTOM FRAMING BY THE GALLERY 344 Main St. Laurel, Maryland Phone 725-0126” in black.
Historical NoteThe Secret Service Pistol Team presented gifts to President Reagan in the Map Room during a photo op on June 16, 1981. The outline of Chief Crazy Horse was created by Samuel M. Yarosh shooting a Nylon Model 66 Remington Rifle at the distance of 21 feet. Crazy Horse (Lakota: Tȟašúŋke Witkó, c. 1840-1877) was an Oglala war leader who fought at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
