Physical DescriptionA brown and black basket-style handwoven purse with a hinged lid. The purse has a single handle and brass fittings. The interior of the purse is lined with velvet, and on the center of the lid is a small glass mirror. Inside the purse is an engraved metal plaque: ".... General (Prem Tinsulanondal) Prime Minister of Thailand October 1981."Historical NotePresident Reagan met with Prem Tinsulanonda in the Oval Office on October 6, 1981, and held a luncheon in the State Dining Room in his honor. After their meetings, the Prime Minister sent Nancy Reagan this hand-woven purse.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
