Physical DescriptionA gold-toned metal scroll (b) mounted on a wooden base (a) The text on the scroll states "TO MRS. NANCY REAGAN IN APPRECIATION OF YOUR UNTIRING EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN THE PREVENTION OF DRUG ABUSE. GIVEN THIS 4TH DAY OF MAY NINETEEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SIX IN BANGKOK, THAILAND GENERAL PREM TINSULANONDA PRIME MINISTER OF THAILAND." At the top of the scroll is an "OFFICE OF THE NARCOTICS CONTROL BOARD" emblem. Two small pieces, one round blue and gold piece (c) and one gold emblem of two lions (d), were also found and probably once attached.
Historical NoteWhile President Reagan was in Tokyo May 2-6, 1986 for the G7 Economic Summit, Nancy Reagan visited Malaysia and Thailand to study local drug problems. When Nancy Reagan was in Thailand on May 2 as the guest of King Bhumidol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit, Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda gave her this award in appreciation for her Just Say No efforts around the world.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
