Physical DescriptionThis gold brooch is designed to look like the Statue of Liberty Torch held in a hand. It is set with six diamonds and five ruby stones. Stamped on the back of the brooch is "3 MITA."
Historical NoteIn April-May 1986, President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan visited Indonesia and Japan on their Far East trip. On the way, they stopped in Hawaii. As they were geting ready to depart Hickam Air Force Base, the First Lady of Hawaii Jean Ariyoshi gave Mrs. Reagan this brooch.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
