Physical DescriptionA gold nugget charm with a paper document stating, "Guayape gold, this piece of jewelry is an original handcrafted design. The gold nuggets were panned in the Guadalupe River in the Olancho Valley of Honduras. In colonial days, the Spaniards maintained 20,000 Indians panning for gold on this river. Though abundant, a mother load has never been found."Historical NotePresident Ronald Reagan met with José Azcona del Hoyo, President of Honduras, during a working visit on May 27, 1986. After a welcome in the East Room, the two presidents met privately in the Oval Office and then with American and Honduran officials in the Cabinet Room.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
