Physical DescriptionA silver POW/MIA cuff bracelet engraved "CPT. LEROY C. SCHANEBERG 6-30-70" on the front.
Historical NoteThe POW bracelet for Leroy C. Schaneberg was given to White House Staffers Richard T. Childress (National Security Council) and Linas J. Kojelis (White House Office of Public Liaison) for President Ronald Reagan after a briefing for Vietnow reps held on Memorial Day, May 26, 1986.
Capt Schaneberg, USAF, from the 40th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron out of at Udorn Airfield, Thailand, was killed along with the rest of his crew when their Sikorsky HH53C "Super Jolly" helicopter was shot down over Laos on June 30, 1970 while attempting to resuce a downed and injured pilot. Remains were recovered in 1995. Capt Schaneberg is is honored on Panel 9W, Row 107 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
