Physical DescriptionA gold 100 CAD Dollar coin with ridged edges commemorating the International Year of the Child. The obverse depicts a bas-relief of Queen Elizabeth II in profile wearing a draped gown and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, sculpted by Arnold Machin. It is lettered “ELIZABETH II D.G. REGINA” in raised letters. The reverse depicts a bas-relief of six children playing in a line with a globe to the right, sculpted by Carola Tietz. It is lettered “1979 CANADA 100 DOLLARS” in raised letters.
Historical NoteElizabeth II was Queen of fourteen Commonwealth realms in addition to the United Kingdom, including Canada. This commemorative 100 Canadian dollar gold coin was minted for the International Year of The Child in 1979.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
