Physical DescriptionThe badge of the Tomas Garrigue Masaryk Order is a medal with four red and white enamel crowns surrounding a blue enameled circle. In the center is a silhouette of Tomáš Masaryk in gold with “T.G. MASARYK” above and “MISTR SVOBODY” [Master of Freedom] below. The medal hangs from a ribbon with red, blue, and white vertical stripes with bars at the top and bottom, with gold leaves on dark blue enamel. The back of the medal and hardware are plain with a safety pin closure.Historical NoteThe award is named after Tomáš Masaryk (1850-1937), the first president of Czechoslovakia. The current version was established in 1990 and re-established by the Czech Republic in 1994, and is given to honor those who have made contributions to democracy and human rights.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
