Physical DescriptionA white porcelain sculpture of a woman in a floor length gown holding a large scarf above her head. The sculpture is dated 1923, titled Le Jeu de L'Echarpe, made by Sevres. The woman is depicted in a French Art Nouveau style.Historical NoteWhite porcelain sculpture of woman with scarf. The original, made in 1898, was part of a grand table design of fifteen figures performing a scarf dance, inspired by Loïe Fuller, titled "Jeu de I'Echarpe." Similar pieces are in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Hermitage.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
