Physical DescriptionA silver Hanukkah menorah, hanukiah, (a) with angled branches and candle cups. The base is square with four feet. The shamash holder (b) is detachable and is held in the center slightly behind the others. This candle holder would use candles, rather than oil and each candle holder is shaped like a hexagonal pyramid. In the center there is a small round finial.Historical NoteThe menorah was given by the American Friends of Lubavitch in their annual meeting with President Reagan in the Oval Office, held on December 1, 1988. It remained on display in the Oval Office until December 28. It was a replica of the National Menorah which was lit on the Ellipse across from the White House.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
