Physical DescriptionA sculpture of a Komodo Dragon with two hatchlings made out of Kayu Waru wood by Nyoman Mawi.Historical NoteIn April-May 1986, President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan visited Indonesia and Japan on their Far East trip. President Reagan gave an address to the Ministerial Meeting of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and attended a State Dinner in Bali.
The Komodo dragon is the largest living species of lizard, and is indigenous to the islands of Indonesia. While at 45" long the sculpture is quite large, it is not as long as the near 10 feet Komodo dragons can grow.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
