He is wearing a morning suit of black jacket, white shirt, gray patterned tie, gray and white striped trousers, and sash with the same design as the flag of Costa Rica. The photo is inscribed in Spanish, “Al presidente Reagan con admiración. Óscar Arias” in the bottom right corner. The verso is blank.
Historical NoteThe photo was given during the working visit of Óscar Arias Sánchez, President of Costa Rica, on December 4, 1986. The two Presidents met in the Oval Office, had lunch in the Roosevelt Room, and spoke to reporters in the Rose Garden at the White House.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
