Physical DescriptionA faceted crystal award reverse etched with a logo of two people flying inside a circle, lettered “DAYTOP VILLAGE TRIUMPH OVER TRAGEDY” around the edges, and “DAYTOP VILLAGE FOUNDATION PROMETHEAN AWARD PRESENTED TO MRS. NANCY REAGAN OCTOBER 27, 1981” in the center and “TIFFANCY & CO.” at the bottom.Historical NoteIn First Lady Nancy Reagan was in New York, NY in 1981 for the Daytop Village presentation on October 26 and the Daytop Dinner on October 27. Daytop Village is a drug addiction treatment organization she first visited in 1980 during a campaign stop. Mrs. Reagan first became impressed by the need to educate young people of the dangers of drug use and abuse during her time there. She "was stunned to find out just how large the problem of drug abuse really is," and was "impressed by what [she] saw at Daytop Village - children who were climbing out of the mess that they had made of their lives because of their dependency on drugs" She later returned to Daytop Village to explain how concerned about the problem she was, and how she wished to help. This visit was one of reasons she began her anti-drug campaign, which later became known as "Just Say No."
During the Reagan administration the sculpture was displayed in the First Lady's Projects Office.
