Historical NoteIt was presented in the Oval Office on July 30, 1987 during a meeting with the 1986 and 1987 Multiple Sclerosis Mothers and Fathers of the Year--Susan Jackson, Melissa Jackson, Art Chaykin, Gail Chaykin, Alka Khetarpal, Rajinder Khetarpal, Daniel Shellington, Catherine Shellington-- and Thor Hanson, the CEO and President of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The MS Hope award is the highest award given by the Multiple Sclerosis Society

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Ronald Reagan during the Reagan administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President Office of Correspondence and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January, 1989 for deposit with the Reagan Presidential Library.
